David Girard has just inherited his old family home, though it is filled with nothing but awful memories he intends to “flip” it by making renovations and selling it for a profit. This is where Andi walks in, she is there to help fix it but as soon as she walks into the house she is assailed with haunting visions. Between the ghosts and the renovations Andi and David soon find themselves falling in love triggering a deadly curse.

So I know this is supposed to be a romance novel with all the steamy scenes included but for me the romance felt lacking, however the horror side of the book was absolutely amazing. At first the author seems to tease the readers with bits of the ghosts that reside in the mansion but then as the novel picks up speed it soon turns into and intense read. I am a sucker for ghosts, but the fact that Bryn Donovan combined romance and horror is so distinctive that the novel is worth reading just for this aspect. I have Bryn Donovan to thank for a sleepless night for one I couldn’t put the book down and two I was reading it late at night, by myself, in a house I have just recently moved into yeah I kept hearing noises and looking over my shoulder, so thanks for that. I did love this book even if the romance was a bit forced Bryn Donovan has a way with words brining to life some of the best scenes to make your heart rate speed up.

Joaquin is the host of a popular occult orientated radio show where people call in to relay their bizarre stories. Joaquin has experienced his own share of life altering events that have lead him to opening the radio show as a forum for people who need to share and hopefully be able to come to terms with what has happened to them. Everything is going exceptionally well for Joaquin he has even been given a job to broadcast in the states for the first time, but soon the stories from his show aren’t just stories as strange events begin to bleed over into his everyday life.

The author did a great job with this novel it is strange and riddled with smaller scary stories that keep you immerged in the story. The main plot line is, well weird it leaves you wanting more and in the end when the true events come to light you are left feeling empty. It was a good ending for the novel but for me I wish it had been better there are so many directions the author could have gone with this one and I feel the one he chose fell flat. The rest of the novel is brilliant and thought provoking, the smaller stories are creepy and interesting, all in all it is a good book too bad you can’t skip the end.

December 18^th, 1975 the Lutz family moves into their dream home, purchased at a steal because there had been a gruesome murder in the house. The Lutzes believe a house is just a house and are not afraid to move in, they will not stay more than a month. This is a true account of what happened to the Lutz family the terror that will forever change their lives.

Some of this story I don’t quite believe, such as they thought it strange that the wife woke up in the middle of the night and the next day didn’t remember doing it at all. Well, for me this is something I do all the time since I was a child and people will tell me all sorts of weird things I did or said while I look completely aware and conscious at the time I am still fast asleep, I must be possessed then according to this book. There were other little things that I could easily dismiss as over reactive imagination or any number of things but when it came to floating off the bed, they had me there. Even if these events aren’t real or exaggerated it is a fun read with some truly spooky scenes.

Stella Rothchild was waiting for her husband to get home on the fateful night that a plane crash left her widowed with two young children. Two years later she decides she needs a fresh start and moves to Tennessee to be closer to her father and step mother, she finds the perfect job at In The Garden nursery and even though a stipulation is to live at the Harper House she finds that everything is perfect except for the woman who is haunting the house. The Harper Bride begins as a benign spirit who sings her children to sleep but as she begins to fall in love again the spirit takes on a more sinister air.

Nora Roberts did a fantastic job with this novel adding just the right amount of creepy to a beautiful romance story. The story centers around Stella and her soon to be love Logan but also encompasses her boss Roz Harper her son Harper Ashby, and also brings to life the story of Hayley Phillips a distant cousin of Roz’s who ends up on her door step pregnant and looking to start a new life for herself after her father has passed away. The way Nora Roberts blends these stories around flowers and the Harper Bride is truly intriguing I cannot wait to see what happens next as the end of this book was truly scary.

House by Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti Review

Mr. White has issued a challenge the people inside of a seemingly innocuous inn after stranding the four there, if they do not kill one among them then he will kill them all so goes this story making the people inside face their own demons.  Set in backwoods Alabama the strangers face in breeds who are trying to sacrifice them to Mr. White and being trapped in a maze underneath a haunted house. Can they keep true themselves, or will the survival instinct kick in and force them to do the unthinkable?

This book was definitely different I enjoyed the mix of supernatural with psychological unfortunately the book itself was too predictable. From the very beginning I knew what was going on and who Mr. White was I was hoping I would be surprised so I kept reading when it turned out that every new “twist” was exactly as I predicted I was thoroughly disappointed. It was a fun read and the suspense was palpable but do not get your hopes up.

The Haunting by Shirley Jackson Review

The Haunting of Hill House

Dr. Montague is an occult scholar who invites three people to be his guest at Hill House in hopes that he may find evidence of the house’s notorious hauntings. At First things are just merely spooky and the residents merely laugh it off, until the manifestations take a more sinister turn.

This novel is absolutely spine tingling it has all you need for a heart fluttering good time, a maze of a house, children laughing in the night, even a statue that seems to watch you every move. I have seen the movie, it’s actually one of my favorites, but even the movie is dull in comparison. Though I am glad they left Mrs. Montague out of the movie, she only managed to annoy me more than anything. I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for something that will give you the heebie jeebies in a short time frame, it is only about 200 pages long but Shirley Jackson manages to definitely leave her mark.
