Blackstone and Brenwen: A Swansong for a Sibling By Andrew D. Mellusco Review

Blackstone & Brenwen: Swansong for a SiblingBlackstone and Brenwen:
A Swansong for a Sibling
By Andrew D. Mellusco

Elliot Blackstone is back this time he journeys to the faun realm representing a Human accused of “Witch-Trickery.” While he is off doing this his apprentice the Centaur Epona Brenwan is on a mission to help Aladdin, a young spy, unite the five realms of Persia. All the while we also have Fury and her boyfriend, Sandman Vincent, traveling to the depths of Mermadom in their capacity as insurance lawyers to help the King be rid of the twenty seven sunken ships and all of their treasure. From three kingdoms come three amazing intertwining stories.

First off I loved Mermadom, not only because I am a sucker for anything mermaid but because Andrew D. Mellusco creates a absolutely unique under sea world where tourists from land can come and visit as they see fit. How you may ask? Bubbles, Oh yes Bubbles and the way the author plays on these it seems plausible, well if you take into account it is still a fantasy novel. I laughed myself silly with the antics that Fury would pull on Vincent as he was terrified his bubble would burst. And as always we have Elliot who is sure to make you smile if not laugh out loud. The best way I can describe this novel is The Lincoln Lawyer meets The Brothers Grimm. It is fun and unique it the best possible way.  As a lot of you may know I listen to most of my books whether it is through audio books or just text to speech, I did that in this instance and my husband whom I didn’t even know was listening as well kept commenting on the book as he too enjoyed some of the absurd situations that people have found themselves in, such as a scene involving three wishes and sausage. I definitely recommend picking up this series or even just this book it is well worth the read!

Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich Review

Wicked Appetite
Lizzy and Diesel Book One
By Janet Evanovich

Lizzie Tucker gave up her fast paced career in New York and moved into her aunt’s old house in Marblehead and soon started working in a small local bakery life was quiet and fit her just fine. One day a handsome stranger brands her with his mark and disappears shortly after this unusual encounter another gorgeous man comes looking for her and tells her the other man is his evil cousin who is after a relic that represents gluttony, if his cousin manages to collect all of the relics that represent the deadly sins he can open the gates to hell on earth.

Not only is this a wonderful thriller it is also hilarious with outlandish characters such as the monkey who continually flips people the bird to the would-be witch whose spells continually go awry. Janet Evanovich does a wonderful job in blending multiple genres into one brilliant and cohesive novel. With fantasy, mystery, romance, and comedy this book has a little bit of everything for everyone. It is a light hearted and fun read, so if you are looking for something thought provoking you may want to go elsewhere.

Casino Shuffle by J. Fields Jr. Review

Casino Shuffle
By J. Fields Jr.

Native Sun Casino is the host to some rather interesting characters, all high profile and full of drama. Antonio Cruz is the resident baby sitter or Head Butler make sure that each of the guests is fully satisfied and taken care of, he takes pride in his job and he is the best at what he does making sure not a single flower is out of place. When a famous actress and her rapper boyfriend come to stay for the weekend Antonio must use his eye for detail to catch the “Kamikaze Cam” before he manages to snap any pictures of the two.

This is unlike any book I have ever read it is witty and fun most books like this are outrageous and far-fetched but I think this book is so enjoyable because you can see these odd things happening. Though there is some action and a little romance it is more about the crazy things that happen at the hotel and the man who comes behind each of the guests to fix things for them. The only thing I can think to compare it to is the old black and white movies where people are chasing each other in and out of doorways and you can’t help but laugh. If you are in the mood for a light and quirky read you may want to give this a try.

Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James Review

Fifty Shades of Grey
Fifty Shades Trilogy Book One
By E.L. James

Anastasia has never found a man who has interested her enough to even go on a date with until she meets highly successful young entrepreneur Christian Grey, and immediately she is lost in his dark eyes. But Christian has a dark secret, domination. As Ana soon discovers there is more to this man than just his vast fortune she finds herself falling in love with him but can Ana come to terms with his eccentric desires?

I was a little weary to read this book I had some vague idea it would just be dominatrix sex and though interesting I love there to be a good story line. I was surprised to realize this was actually a fun book full of witty commentary from Ana’s Subconscious and Inner Goddess I found myself giggling. Though I must say there were a couple of scenes I could have lived without, but E.L. James did a wonderful job writing this novel the romance was strong and the obstacle they must face is believable and intriguing. This book reads like a young adult novel though it is certainly not for the faint of heart. I kept thinking to myself “It’s an erotic, modern day, more realistic version of Beauty and the Beast.” I am certainly curious enough to see what happens next.
