Kira was born with a special ability she is able to harness the power of the sun and use it to defeat vampires. Kira travels with her guardian and best friend, Luke, to Sonneyville home of a large group of protector conduits to hopefully learn how to control at least half of her powers since she is the only person alive who was born to a protector and punisher the two factions within the conduit community. Once Sonnyville is attacked by vampires who are after her she decides it is time to put an end to it and goes after Diana the one who has initiated the hunt for Kira, if she is able to capture Kira and drink her blood she will be immune to both factions powers.

Kaitlyn Davis writes some of the best action scenes I have come across in a young adult book; they are fast paced and so well delivered making this more than just a silly romance. With this book we get to see more into Kira’s character and her family life in general we also get an introduction to her mother’s family which doesn’t turn out so wonderful to begin with. The overall book is fantastic like I said great action but also the romance is intense but when Kaitlyn Davis throws a monkey wrench into Kira’s relationship with Tristan you can’t help but wonder if she should really be with someone else. Even if you are not a fan of vampire romances I would give this one a try it is not your average series.

A small group of people are stranded on a deserted island with plenty of available resources leaving too much free time on their hands. As their captain seems to go crazy the crew begins to find conflicts amongst their selves.

Another short story masterfully brought to life by Tom Underhill. Instead of this one having a supernatural or sinister angle it is simply the human mind and what we are capable of which is sometimes more intriguing. I wish the author would take this story and expound on it into a full novel I would love to be able to have more details for this one.

The Chase by Clive Cussler Review

The Chase

The chase certainly lives up to its name, in 1906 Isaac Bell sets off to capture and stop a man who is robbing banks and brutally murdering everyone who is present, the last body count is in the thirties. From the very beginning this novel is action packed until the very end leaving you waiting desperately for the next book.

This was my first Clive Cussler novel; I had seen them at almost every book store I have ever been to so I, of course, recognized his name. I had not anticipated how wrapped up into this story I would become and I am now looking forward to finding more of his books to review.

What if when you died you were completely aware of what was happening to you, the bugs eating your body and the rotting of your limbs? William Knight’s book brings that very question to life, in a disturbing and realistic way combining genetic modification with the locked in syndrome. Not only does William Knight manage a gruesome novel but he also weaves an addictive tale, Hendrix Harrison is a reporter searching for the truth behind people who have been seen after they have died, Sarah Wallace is a scientist whose body farm start to lose its inhabitants, they work together to put a stop to the evil pharmaceutical company whose drug is directly responsible for these people remaining conscious even after they have started to rot.

This book was absolutely amazing, definitely a new twist on the popular zombies who are mindless murdering creatures. The descriptions are so well written and vivid if you don’t think “eww” at least once there is something seriously wrong with you. If you want a book that will make you reconsider being cremated this is the one for you.

The God of Magic gave every human control over one of the four main elements with one condition, the elements should never mix. But as is a human nature person began to break that rule. Over the years through the mixing of all of the elements a powerful disease was create making the one with the “Magic Disease” have no element and an insatiable urge to kill someone for theirs. This book is the story of Ria, a young woman in her freshman year of college, who finds out that even though she has an element and comes from a “pure” family she actually is a carrier of the Magic Disease.  

This was actually a cute book about the struggles Ria is facing. How she has to hide what she has become or risk someone torturing or killing her. Ria also falls in love but even though it sounds simple, it’s not, she must chose between Michael a boy who would do anything for her and love her unconditionally but whom she has accidently tried to kill, or Adrian who also has the magic disease but is dating her best friend.  The book was a fun and easy read but if you like a lot of action this is not the book for you. It’s a great ok for snuggling on the couch with.

A Marked Past

After Lyla’s father dies in a freak accident her mother moves them to her father’s family home in Salem. Shortly after arriving Lyla’s uncle notices a mark on her neck in the shape of a crescent moon, he tells her that this mark means she will be a goddess among their people, witches. After, he tells Lyla about his family’s history beginning with the Salem witch trials and how they had all been murdered by the same man who is now out to kill Lyla and the rest of her family, dragging her into a four hundred year old battle. All while trying to make it through a new high school and falling in love.

Once I started reading this book I didn’t want to put it down it has fantasy, drama, action, and romance. From watching the relationship between Lyla and her newly discovered cousin Hana form into something akin to sisters or watching her fall madly in love with Caleb the Preacher’s adopted son, the interweaving relationships will keep you involved. If that is not enough for you, you still have a centuries old raving lunatic to deal with. I can’t wait until I am able to read the next book.

This is the story of Le Cirque des Rêves the circus that arrives without warning and is only open at night. We are taken back to the very beginning and how it was created to be the stage for an epic game of magic between Celia Bowen and Marco Alisdair. Both are chosen as children to be the competitors, training from an early age to participate. The game is simple one out does the other with the use of magic, as the story progresses so does the circus each one adding a bit more to it until it is completely something of wonder. The more the characters play the closer they become until ultimately they fall in love with one another, but only one of them can win this game.

This is my first review on an audio book. My first welcome surprise was that it was read by Jim Dale, if you do not know who this is; he is the one who read the Harry Potter audio books. Jim Dale has an amazing way of bringing the characters to life and in this book with so many main characters and elaborate details it was definitely fun to listen to. In this book the details about the circus are so vivid you feel as if you are there and if you do not then you want to see it for yourself; I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one made into a movie.   The story was complex spanning several years and encompassing many different characters into the plot, the author managed to pull it together beautifully. From the love that develops between Celia and Marco to just watching the twins, Poppit and Widget grow along with the circus, I am sure you will continue to be entertained.

Part three delves more into Rebecca Morrison’s life, we’ve met he in the previous books as “poor Rebecca” the woman whose parents died in a car accident when she was a teenager where she suffer severe head trauma leaving her in almost the same mental state as when she was a teenager.  Rebecca then ends up being the ward of her religious fanatic aunt Martha, who drove away her own husband and child years prior.  Unlike the other books where a “cursed” object is left at someone’s home in this book Rebecca buys it as a welcome home present for her cousin Andrea who has finally come back to Blackstone after having nowhere else to go.  I found this book focuses more on the main story line that ties the books together, which is not bad but left this part lacking in intensity though this is the first book to blatantly explain the connection between the memento and victim. All in all I really hope the books get better otherwise I have wasted my time for nothing.
